SoftBank plans to issue 1 trillion yen in retail bonds in Japan

According to CoinMeta, SoftBank Group plans to issue a record amount of 1 trillion yen (approximately $6.3 billion) in retail bonds in Japan to fulfill its investment commitments to OpenAI. According to documents submitted by the company, these 7-year bonds are expected to be priced on September 4th, with an initial coupon rate range of 4.3% to 4.9%. This bond issuance is SoftBank's third time this year to issue bonds to retail investors; previously, the company raised 418 billion yen in April and another 260 billion yen in June. As the demand for artificial intelligence tools and services continues to grow from OpenAI and other large-scale cloud service providers, SoftBank is accelerating its data center investments to expand computing capacity.
