According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, Tether's $120 million bitcoin mining investment in Uruguay has come to a halt due to disputes over unpaid electricity bills and revisions to the power supply contract. The state-owned utility company UTE cut off the power supply to the mine in July 2025, resulting in the suspension of the project, which was intended to promote Tether's expansion of bitcoin mining in South America.
