According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Yonhap News, as of the end of July 2026, there were a total of 566,352 foreign accounts on five major cryptocurrency exchanges in South Korea. However, only 517 of these accounts had completed customer identity verification (KYC), accounting for 0.09%, and only 90 of these were active accounts during that month, representing 0.01%. Among them, the exchange with the highest number of foreign accounts was Bithumb, with 484,846 such accounts, but currently, there are no active accounts. Foreigners still hold approximately 2.58 billion Korean won in deposits and 30.36 billion Korean won in cryptocurrency assets on these exchanges. The report suggests that most of these accounts were likely registered before South Korea tightened restrictions on foreign transactions in Korean won in 2021.
