Cysic CEO: Zero-knowledge proofs need to surpass GPU to meet the computational demands of AI
2026-08-22 01:00:59
According to CoinMeta, Cysic CEO Leo Fan stated that as the demand for computing resources from AI increases, zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) must surpass GPU. Fan pointed out that ZKP systems are now competing with financially robust AI data centers for the same GPU, leading to increased proof costs. Cysic reported a 9% improvement in performance by optimizing hardware usage. He also mentioned that GPU usage has become a bottleneck for ZKPs, with the main issue being the mismatch between the zkvm software and the accelerators used to generate proofs, resulting in underutilization of some GPU capabilities. Cysic's Venus proof engine solved this mismatch by reducing the coordination time between CPU and GPU. Fan also noted that existing accelerators are not being fully utilized, and their efficiency is the actual bottleneck for proof costs.
