Grayscale Research: Privacy Protection May Become an Important Requirement for Digital Currencies
2026-08-21 08:04:24
According to CoinMeta, research indicates that as stablecoins, blockchain applications, and artificial intelligence drive increased financial transparency, privacy protection may become an important demand in the digital currency sector. Zcash is a decentralized digital currency similar to Bitcoin, which uses zero-knowledge proofs to conceal the senders, recipients, and amounts of transactions, endowing it with privacy properties similar to cash. The report notes that after years of protocol upgrades, the usage rate of Zcash has been increasing, and its wallets and infrastructure are also developing. However, the privacy sector still faces risks such as regulation, technological upgrades, and ecosystem adoption. Currently, ZEC has a market value of about $8 billion, accounting for only about 0.6% of the “digital currencies” segment of cryptocurrencies. If it were to occupy 5% of this market in the future, its theoretical valuation could increase by approximately 9 times. Grayscale believes that the core investment logic for Zcash lies in whether the market will re-evaluate the value of privacy within the digital currency system, rather than replacing Bitcoin as the mainstream currency.
