According to CoinMeta, recently the U.S. Treasury Department announced an increase in the scale of long-term government bond repurchases to help stabilize the bond market. Following this move, U.S. mortgage rates fell for the second consecutive week. Freddie Mac stated that the average rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages dropped from 6.67% a week ago to 6.65%. A year ago, this rate was 6.58%. However, potential homebuyers still face concerns about borrowing costs, and the ongoing Iran war keeps inflation risks high. Jack Kremel, a senior economist at the real estate website realtor.com, pointed out that the trend at the long end of the yield curve highlights market concerns about inflation and fiscal prospects, which could put upward pressure on mortgage rates in the coming weeks.
