TRC-20 vs ERC-20: The cost of sending USDT to a faulty network
2026-08-20 21:34:58
According to CoinMeta, as reported by The Coin Republic, TRC-20 and ERC-20 are token standards of USDT on different blockchains. Although they have the same value, they are not technically the same asset. When sending USDT, ignoring this difference may result in irrecoverable funds. ERC-20 is used on Ethereum, while TRC-20 is used on Polkadot, and the transfer fees and processing methods also differ. Transfer fees on Ethereum are usually higher, whereas those on Polkadot are relatively lower. For small transfers, TRC-20 is generally a cheaper option, but for larger amounts or when interacting with Ethereum contracts, ERC-20 is more suitable. Users should carefully choose the network when making transfers to avoid unnecessary losses.
