Ethereum Privacy Upgrade: Plans to Build a Privacy Protocol
2026-08-20 17:39:07
According to CoinMeta, as reported by The Coin Republic, Ethereum's next major network upgrade, Hegot, is still under review. Of the 66 proposals, only one has been officially scheduled, while the rest, including three that aim to provide better support for privacy applications on Ethereum, are still being evaluated. Ethereum's addresses and transaction details are visible on its public ledger, which can be a serious issue for companies that manage salaries or financial funds. Researchers from the Ethereum Foundation, Toni Wahrst and tter, have proposed a framework for transactions (EIP-8141) that would allow accounts to set their own rules for transaction approval, execution, and payment. The other two proposals will further develop Ethereum's native privacy system. Although the privacy proposals are still under consideration, the only confirmed proposal so far is Focil, which aims to reduce the control block builders have over transaction processing. The complexity of these privacy proposals may mean that their approval will take some time. Currently, Ethereum's privacy upgrades are still in discussion, with Focil being the only confirmed proposal, while the remaining 65 proposals are still under review.
