Lianchang International: Indonesia's central bank may raise interest rates in the fourth quarter

According to CoinMeta, economists at Bank of Indonesia International (BII) pointed out in a report that if external risks and inflationary risks once again put pressure on the Indonesian rupiah, the Central Bank of Indonesia (BI) could raise interest rates by 25 basis points in the fourth quarter. They stated that a narrowing of the current account deficit could support the rupiah in the second half of the year, but external factors such as the Federal Reserve's interest rate path, a stronger US dollar, and oil prices could still be key determinants of the rupiah's exchange rate. In addition, due to the potential food shortages caused by the El Niño phenomenon and fluctuations in energy prices in the Middle East, the risk of inflation in Indonesia is on the rise. Given that economic growth is expected to slow down in the second half of the year, BII expects the BI to remain patient while closely monitoring global interest rates and the trend of the rupiah.
