According to CoinMeta, as reported by Nikkei News, Japanese trading company Itochu Corporation will enter the data center development sector. The company plans to invest tens of billions of yen by 2030 to build around 10 data centers in Japan, which will then be leased to American tech giants and other enterprises. These data centers will be located in areas such as the Tokyo metropolitan area, Osaka, and Kyushu. Each facility is expected to have a power supply capacity of about 50 megawatts, and 1 to 2 projects will be put into operation each year. Itochu will be responsible for land acquisition and construction, and plans to sell the data centers to third parties in the future to improve asset efficiency. Itochu may also collaborate with East Japan Railway Company (JR East) to advance these data center projects. JR East owns a large amount of land resources, operates power generation facilities, and maintains connections with power companies, which can help to address land and power supply issues in data center construction. The Japanese data center-related services market is expected to reach 5.65 trillion yen by 2030, representing a growth of about 30% compared to 2025.
