According to CoinMeta, Ethereum’s next major upgrade will break the “21,000 gas” rule that users rely on when sending Ether. Developers from the Ethereum Foundation have informed wallet manufacturers and fee calculators that any assumptions based on 21,000 gas units for basic Ethereum transfers need to be updated. The new upgrade will increase the fee for sending Ether to unused addresses to 183,600 gas units, while the fee for sending to existing accounts will remain at 21,000 gas units. Developers still have time to resolve related issues; the upgrade will go live on the test network Plat å berget on Thursday, and then it will be extended to the Sepolia and Hoodi test networks, before finally being implemented on the main Ethereum network.
