British pound declines after the release of employment data
2026-08-18 14:47:56
According to CoinMeta, UK employment data shows that the unemployment rate unexpectedly remained unchanged at 4.9%, higher than economists' forecast of 4.8%. Over the three months to June, the number of employed people decreased. Excluding bonuses, quarterly average income grew by 3.5%, higher than the expected 3.4%. Anben Group strategist Felix Feather stated in a report that the UK labor market has been trending towards relaxation for some time, which supports the rationale for the Bank of England to maintain interest rates unchanged for the rest of this year. After the data was released, the pound fell by 0.1% to $1.3519 against the dollar, while the euro rose by 0.1% to £0.8554 against the pound.
