US Treasury seeks public comments on implementation rules for stablecoins under the GENIUS legislation

According to CoinMeta, on August 17th, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a notice proposing rules for the implementation of the “GENIUS Act” and sought public comments on the regulatory framework for payment stablecoins in the United States. The draft specifies the applicable standards for issuing payment stablecoins in the U.S. and providing or selling them to individuals within the U.S. Starting from January 18, 2027, issuing payment stablecoins in the U.S. will generally require federal or state-level permission. From July 18, 2028, digital asset service providers will not be allowed to provide or sell payment stablecoins issued by unauthorized issuers to individuals within the U.S. The public comment period will last for 60 days after the notice is published in the Federal Register.
