Goldman Sachs warns of slower consumer spending and a weakening effect of tax refunds

According to CoinMeta, Goldman Sachs economists warn that as the impact of tax refunds fades, U.S. consumer spending may face challenges. Although consumers have shown significant resilience this year amidst high oil prices and food costs, it is expected that consumer spending growth will slow down to 1-1.5% in the second half of the year. In the second quarter, sales of consumer goods companies increased by 5.9% year-on-year, while those of consumer products companies grew by 3.9%. Goldman Sachs notes that although retail sales declined in July, this partly reflects the negative effects of Amazon's early promotions. Overall, consumer spending remains a major driver of the U.S. economy.
