Mark Cuban: The AI chip will become a new crypto asset
2026-08-16 17:23:20
According to CoinMeta, on August 16, Mark Cuban stated that "chips, as a category of assets, will become new crypto assets," a prediction that reflects the demand for advanced computing hardware driven by artificial intelligence. Cuban did not specify any financial products, investment structures, or timelines in his post. His comments were widely interpreted as referring to high-end AI accelerators, such as GPU. On August 10, CoreWeave closed a $2.6 billion extended withdrawal loan to fund high-performance computing infrastructure, demonstrating the lenders' confidence in the long-term GPU demand. The latest quarterly data reported by NVIDIA shows that data center revenue reached $75.2 billion, a year-on-year increase of 92%. Although these figures indicate demand for GPU, they do not establish chips as a separate investment category. Cuban's most recent comments came shortly after he significantly reduced his holdings of Bitcoin, stating that Bitcoin "is not the hedging tool I expected it to be."
