The founder of DeFiLlama, 0xngmi, stated that the team had reported the counterfeit DeFiLlama applications in the app store for trademark infringement and impersonation to Apple for several months without any action taken to remove them. After the team deposited a small amount of funds into a test wallet and used the application, only to have their funds stolen, they provided evidence, and Apple removed the application within a few days. 0xngmi mentioned that attackers have used this method to target multiple major cryptocurrency brands.
