According to CoinMeta, a survey by the European Central Bank (ECB) shows that in 2026, only 0.2% of businesses in the eurozone accepted cryptocurrency payments, while 99.8% of businesses refused to use them. This finding stands in sharp contrast to the widespread growth of mobile and card payments. The survey indicates that merchants prefer established digital payment methods, suggesting that cryptocurrency payments are still not widely used in everyday business transactions. The survey covered 8,205 businesses in 21 eurozone countries and found that 82% of online sellers accepted credit cards, and 74% accepted bank transfers. Despite the increasing acceptance of digital payments, cash still enjoys widespread support among merchants, with 92% of cash-accepting businesses expecting to continue accepting it for the next five years.
