According to CoinMeta, U.S. Democratic Senator Warren has requested U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen to explain the basis for the Trump administration's intervention in the Japanese yen, continuing her consistent practice of reviewing the Trump administration's foreign exchange policies. In a letter dated August 13, Warren wrote that to date, the government has not provided detailed justification for this intervention, nor has it officially disclosed how much taxpayer-funded money was used to purchase Japanese yen. Following the actions taken on July 31, Yellen confirmed media reports that the U.S. and Japan jointly intervened in the currency market for the first time since 1998 to support the yen, but she has not yet specified how much capital was utilized.
