According to CoinMeta, a study published in USENIX Security '26 revealed that researchers identified 65,340 high-risk crypto addresses involved in abuse on Ethereum and BNB Chain. The associated native tokens resulted in losses of 126,982.94 ETH and 17,726.7 BNB. The study estimated that the total losses associated with these addresses exceeded 574.8 million US dollars, of which two newly described types of active attack vectors directly caused losses of about 15.7 million US dollars (accounting for 2.7%). The first type involves the misuse of contract accounts and the exploitation of deterministic contract addresses, while the second type involves EIP-7702 where accounts that expose keys are entrusted to malicious code for direct transfer of deposits. The research team extracted over 16.3 million unique private keys from 63,004 GitHub repositories between January 2015 and May 2025, with an overall accuracy rate of 99.11% for the detection results.
