Metaplanet Launches Bitbonds, Completing a Private Placement Debt Sale of $1.3 Million

According to CoinMeta, Japanese Bitcoin financial company Metaplanet (3350) launched a continuous bond issuance plan named “Bitbonds”, completing its first sale which involved four private placement series with a total value of approximately 200 million yen (about 1.3 million US dollars). The company stated that these unsecured senior bonds will mature in about three years, with annual interest rates ranging from 4% to 4.3%. The fundraising began at the end of July and has now concluded. Metaplanet mentioned that Bitbonds will become one of its core financing channels, alongside common stocks, equity-linked securities, and preferred stocks. Future issuances will depend on funding needs, market conditions, and investor demand. Unlike the shares of Metaplanet, these bonds offer fixed interest and principal repayment, based on the company’s creditworthiness. However, they are unsecured, unrated, and not protected against principal loss, and the issuer’s financial condition is still significantly affected by fluctuations in the Bitcoin price.
