RBA Assistant President Kent: The increase in cash interest rates has achieved the expected results
2026-08-13 08:35:50
According to CoinMeta, the assistant governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), Christopher Kent, stated that the increase in the cash rate is having the expected effect, indicating that policymakers believe the current tightening cycle is largely proceeding as planned. He noted that the cash rate is currently close to the upper limit of the neutral rate, suggesting that there is limited willingness to raise it further unless there are new reasons. Kent mentioned that the slowdown in the housing market is partly attributed to changes in federal budget taxes, rather than just interest rate factors, which provides some room for RBA to maintain policy stability if data supports it. In addition, he emphasized that investments in data centers and infrastructure related to artificial intelligence have supported overall economic growth, despite a weakening in housing demand.
