According to CoinMeta, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is preparing to launch two major crypto initiatives, despite the difficulties Congress is facing in advancing the Clear Act. The SEC may announce details of tokenized securities innovation exemptions this week and plans to consider a new framework for certain crypto asset investment contracts at an upcoming meeting. This move comes after the Senate postponed the review of the Clear Act until September. The SEC confirmed that it will consider whether to release the proposal at a public meeting on August 14. Bloomberg reported that the second initiative could be an innovation exemption that allows for experimental blockchain versions of traditional securities. The mechanism proposed would allow companies to prevent third parties from tokenizing the issuance of their shares. SEC Chair Michael Gensler stated that the agency is ready to continue to establish rules for the crypto market structure. Senator Elizabeth Warren and other Democrats have criticized the regulatory agency's too close relationship with the crypto industry, arguing that agency rules cannot provide the same permanence as legislation.
