According to CoinMeta, the XRP bridge of Ripple was compromised due to a software flaw, resulting in the theft of nearly 200,000 XRP, which is approximately equivalent to $200,000 at current prices. The attackers exploited this software vulnerability to withdraw real tokens using fake deposits that were not actually made. This bridge connected the XRP ledger with Coreum (now renamed TX), a US-based company specializing in tokenizing real assets. The attack occurred on August 9th, and the system was suspended 97 minutes later. TX has confirmed the deposit detection flaw and stated that they have fixed the vulnerability, and are currently evaluating all potential remedial measures.
