Probability of U.S. government shutdown increases due to delay in House of Representatives voting

According to CoinMeta and 99bitcoins, on July 21st, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a temporary funding bill with a vote of 220 to 205, extending the government spending deadline from September 30th to December 4th in order to avoid the upcoming mid-term elections. This move sparked intense discussions about the likelihood of a government shutdown, and market forecasts quickly adjusted accordingly. Contracts on Kalshi and Polymarket indicated that the implied probability of a shutdown on October 1st was lower than before the vote. Although the probability had decreased, the controversy remained unresolved, as fundamental disputes over defense spending, election legislation, and funding levels continued. House Speaker Mike Johnson warned opposition Democrats that if the government shut down after September 30th, they would bear the resulting chaos alone. Most Democrats voted against the bill, with Representative Rosa DeLauro being one of those in opposition.
