BIP-110 Fork Failed: Insights into Bitcoin Governance
2026-08-11 14:19:25
According to CoinMeta, the BIP-110 fork failed on August 8, 2026. A few chains stopped after mining only two blocks within eight hours, and 99.85% of the computing power remained on the original chain. This fork is considered the most decisive governance rejection since SegWit2x. Supporters are now discussing a complete replacement of miners. The goal of BIP-110 is to limit any non-financial data embedded in Bitcoin transactions, with the proposed activation threshold set at 55%. However, supporters of the fork failed to gain enough miner support, ultimately leading to the failure of the fork.
