Trump Extends Shipping Law Exemptions to Ensure U.S. Oil Supply

According to CoinMeta, the Trump administration narrowed the scope of exemptions under the Jones Act on Monday while extending them for another 90 days in order to reduce U.S. shipping restrictions and ensure a continuous supply of oil during the Iran war. Trump's second extension of these exemptions comes at a time when the ongoing war is causing turmoil in the global petroleum market economy, with midterm elections just a few months away. Trump initially signed a 60-day exemption on March 17, followed by another 90-day extension in mid-May. The latest exemption will only apply to ships transporting specific energy resources. White House officials stated that the Pentagon needs to consult with the U.S. Coast Guard to determine whether each shipment is eligible for the exemption.
