According to CoinMeta, an alliance consisting of the Bitcoin Policy Institute and over 40 digital asset organizations is calling on leading AI laboratories to provide qualified open-source security researchers with controlled access to cutting-edge models in order to counter the increasingly sophisticated AI assisted network attacks. The initiative was launched on August 10th and aims to provide open-source defenders with trusted access to state-of-the-art AI models, emphasizing that current model protection measures may limit legitimate security research. The alliance also pointed out that hackers are integrating artificial intelligence into their attacks on cryptocurrency companies and financial institutions. Recent security incidents have shown that vulnerabilities in open-source software can go undetected for years, resulting in significant losses.
