According to CoinMeta, AMD (Nasdaq: AMD) recently announced the acquisition of chip startup Taalas, a move that could bring significant competitive advantages in the field of AI inference. AMD plans to integrate Taalas's technology into its accelerator roadmap and develop system-level solutions, in conjunction with AMD Instinct's graphics processing units (GPUs). Vamsi Boppana, senior vice president of the artificial intelligence group at AMD, stated that AMD is building a full-stack AI platform to provide customers with flexible computing solutions. This acquisition will enhance AMD's AI portfolio, offering differentiated inference performance and efficiency. The financial terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.
