According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Bloomberg, the U.S. Department of Defense plans to conduct its first test of the “Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense” (ABMD) system, which is currently under construction, by the end of this year. In April of this year, the U.S. Space Force announced that it had signed contracts with 12 companies, including Space Exploration Technologies Corp. and Lockheed Martin, to develop space-based interceptors for the Aegis system capable of intercepting missiles. The report cites anonymous sources stating that if the ground tests of the missile interception system are successfully completed by the end of this year, the government is prepared to pay $60 million to the relevant companies. In addition, it is expected that the U.S. Space Force will begin purchasing the system from the teams that pass the final tests starting in 2030.
