According to CoinMeta, OpenAI aims to release a new model, Astra, next week. Astra is the largest pre-trained model trained since GPT-4.5. Leaker blogger Leo stated that the latest model version for internal testing is codenamed “mewfour” and has now been listed as a candidate for release. It has been confirmed that OpenAI will be their next main model, with the internal version having resolved 10 long-standing mathematical and theoretical computer science problems. The latest tests have found that the upcoming Astra has developed programming and networking capabilities so rapidly that there is a possibility it could autonomously attack real critical systems. OpenAI has suspended some internal tests of Astra and has tightened restrictions on networking, tool usage, and model weight access. Subsequently, it will also be submitted to government agencies and external security organizations for testing.
