According to CoinMeta, the Coldcard vulnerability led to a total of $247 million in crypto thefts in July, making it the second worst month of 2026. This vulnerability resulted in the theft of over $100 million in Bitcoin, involving 7,300 wallets. According to DefiLlama data, the amount stolen in July was more than three times that of June, which saw only $75 million in thefts, and $60 million in May. Research platform Cryptorank stated that the incidents in July demonstrate that even cold storage cannot eliminate technical risks, and can potentially put thousands of wallets at risk at the same time.
