Ethereum staking token weETH separated from restaking, intensifying rewards debate

According to CoinMeta, Ethereum staking token weETH has been separated from restaking, becoming a token that can only earn regular Ethereum staking rewards. Users who wish to obtain additional earnings need to hold the second type of token, weETHs. Staking involves locking Ethereum to help maintain the Ethereum network in exchange for rewards, while restaking involves reusing the same Ethereum to provide support for other services in order to earn extra rewards. This move provides holders with a clearer choice between basic staking and additional staking. ether.fi currently manages approximately $3.55 billion in customer deposits, with annual fees of around $223 million, and total revenue in the second quarter reaching $41 million. The economics of Ethereum staking are currently under debate, with researchers suggesting that staking rewards should be stopped once half of Ethereum has been locked up. The founder of ether.fi, Mike Silagadze, believes that this proposal will exclude smaller stakers and weaken products based on staking rewards.
