According to CoinMeta, and as reported by the Financial Times, after the EU's transition period ended on July 1st, there has been an increase in scams targeting cryptocurrency users. Scammers impersonate officials from ESMA, French authorities AMF, or exchange staff, claiming that the platforms are unlicensed and that assets need to be urgently transferred to fake websites or wallets. Data from ESMA shows that currently only 323 cryptocurrency companies have obtained licenses, while it is estimated that over 1,700 unlicensed institutions need to cease operations.
