According to CoinMeta, Federal Reserve official Lael Brainard stated that she “fully supports” the Fed’s decision to keep interest rates unchanged last week. She pointed out that with inflation levels significantly above the 2% target, the Fed needs to collect more data to determine what policies should be adopted in the future. Brainard emphasized that before the September monetary policy meeting, the Fed “still has a lot of information to gather” to determine whether the current inflation is driven by supply shocks that will subside over time or if it is forming a more persistent inflation environment. She also said that the Fed should “closely monitor the incoming information and be fully prepared to take action when necessary.” Brainard is not currently a voting member of FOMC. She is concerned about how the public will react to a new round of inflation and noted that if inflationary trends strengthen again, the Fed may need to take proactive measures to bring price pressures back to the target level.
