According to CoinMeta, Sequoia Capital successfully raised $10 billion after its new leadership took office and made an additional investment of $2.5 billion in the artificial intelligence company Anthropic. This is the largest investment for Sequoia since its establishment 54 years ago; initially, they discussed investing $1 billion, but ultimately decided to raise the amount to $2.5 billion. Since Alfred Lin and Pat Grady took over the company last November, Sequoia has announced about 20 investments related to AI, showing a renewed interest in high-valued projects. In addition, Sequoia led a $300 million financing round for AI, a chip company, which resulted in a post-investment valuation of $10.3 billion. Sequoia's former leader, Roelof Botha, was cautious about high valuations, which led to missing the opportunity to invest in Anthropic at a lower price. This recent shift clearly indicates a desire to make up for past missed opportunities, as Sequoia would rather accept higher valuations than miss out on top-tier AI companies again.
