According to CoinMeta, oil prices rose after Houthi militants in Yemen claimed to have attacked Saudi oil tankers. The latest trading price for Brent crude oil is $80.32 per barrel, an increase of over 1.2%, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures rose by 0.67% to $76.28 per barrel. The Houthi militants stated that they hit the tankers near Saudi Arabia's main crude oil export port of Yanbu with missiles. This attack and the subsequent rise in oil prices have caused concern in the market and seem to have affected hopes for a potential ceasefire agreement in the Middle East region. The US Central Command stated on social media on Tuesday evening that the southern route through the Strait of Hormuz is "open to commercial vessels." Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mentioned in earlier comments on CNBC that an agreement to reopen this important waterway could be reached this week. On Tuesday, oil prices fell by about 6% due to market hopes for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Prior to this, US President Donald Trump canceled planned attacks on Iran and turned to new negotiations instead.
