According to CoinMeta, and as reported by the United States Attorney's Office in Connecticut, three men from Missouri – Sedric Louis, John Davis, and Martel Williams – have been charged by a grand jury with Hobbs Act and robbery charges, facing up to 20 years in prison. The trio was accused of being hired in August 2024 to travel to Connecticut with the intent to kidnap an individual who had participated in stealing $100 million in Bitcoin along with that person's parents, in order to coerce them into transferring the cryptocurrency. Fearing they might be filmed during the attempt, the three men withdrew, and another group from Florida subsequently carried out the actual kidnapping. At present, all three have appeared in court and have not pleaded guilty.
