Five tech giants commit to $1.16 trillion in AI data center leasing expenditures

According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, Microsoft, Meta, Guokou Cloud, Amazon, and Alphabet have committed to approximately $1.16 trillion in future lease payments for the construction of AI data centers. This amount is about four times the current $285 billion in confirmed lease liabilities of these five companies. Among them, Guokou Cloud's uncommitted lease obligations amount to $260 billion, which is nearly seven times its $37.89 billion in confirmed lease liabilities. Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon's uncommitted lease obligations are $32.91 billion, $27.899 billion, $85.2 billion, and $13.721 billion, respectively. Meta signed a $68 billion data center lease agreement in July, raising the total known commitments of these five companies to approximately $1.16 trillion. These leases are expected to commence between fiscal years 2027 and 2029, with lease terms ranging from 15 to 19 years.
