Dezhou Tightens Power Approval for Data Centers; Bernstein Says It's Good News for Existing Mining Enterprises and AI Operators

According to CoinMeta, as reported by The Block, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered the Public Utilities Commission and power grid operator ERCOT to conduct audits of data center projects within the state. As a result, ERCOT has temporarily suspended the electricity approval process for Batch Zero. Currently, data center applications account for approximately 90% of the 474GW interconnection queue. Bernstein analysts point out that regulatory reviews will curb speculative development and reduce new power capacity, thereby increasing the scarcity value of already approved power capacity, which is beneficial for existing Bitcoin mining companies and AI operators. The report indicates that Cipher Digital, Cleanspark, and Core Scientific will be significantly affected by the audits, while Terawulf has a stronger ability to withstand risks, and Riot Platforms and Iren will benefit due to their large-scale approved operating assets.
