According to CoinMeta, Saudi Aramco announced today that its net profit for the second quarter increased by 44% year-on-year, reaching $32.69 billion, compared to $22.67 billion in the same period last year. The company directly benefited from the surge in oil prices caused by the US-Iran war and disruptions in supply through the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Aramco relies on its East-West Pipeline to transport crude oil to the port of Yanbu on the Red Sea. At the same time, major American oil companies also achieved considerable profits: Chevron recently reported its largest quarterly profit in history, amounting to $12.1 billion, ExxonMobil reported a second-quarter profit of $14.5 billion, and Shell achieved a profit of $10.8 billion, marking the strongest profit period for major Western oil companies since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The Strait of Hormuz is a focal point of global attention, as about one-fifth of global oil trade passes through this narrow waterway. With the outbreak of the war, traders began to consider the possibility of severe supply disruptions, leading to a sharp rise in oil prices, which once exceeded $100 per barrel. US President Donald Trump criticized this, stating that oil companies were making “excessive profits” under high oil prices and suggested that they should “return some of those profits to the public.”
