According to CoinMeta, President Trump warned that the latest negotiations with Iran represent the “last chance” to end a five-month conflict. He stated on Monday evening that the talks are “in progress” at the request of Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and other countries. However, Tehran denies any direct negotiations with the United States. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Tehran will continue to defend its borders but does not seek to escalate the conflict. Trump called Iranian leaders “extremely hypocritical” on social media, accusing them of lying about the ongoing peace talks. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bahai reiterated that Tehran is currently only in talks with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Trump’s decision to cancel a “major attack” on Iran to allow for negotiations boosted market sentiment, and oil prices fell accordingly. Earlier on Tuesday, West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures rose 1.29% to $81.38 per barrel, while Brent crude oil rose 1.73% to $85.23 per barrel.
