According to CoinMeta, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei is concerned that some of the top talents who have recently joined the company are attracted by high salaries and equity, rather than the company's emphasized AI safety mission. His concerns are not unfounded, as top AI researchers are frequently switching jobs between different laboratories. Within a year, four co-founders have left Google. Some researchers who were poached at great expense by Noam Shazeer and John Jumper have also quickly switched jobs to OpenAI and AnthropicMeta respectively. Money remains the most direct incentive; some researchers hope to obtain equity before Anthropic and OpenAI potentially go public. Others worry that AI will take over more model development work in the future, and the current scarcity and bargaining power of top researchers may soon decline.
