According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Reuters, China has revised its regulations to protect integrated circuit layout designs, tightened registration standards, and allowed for punitive damages in cases of serious infringement. The revised regulations were signed by Premier Li Keqiang on July 23 and will come into effect on October 15. The new rules require applicants to prove that their applications stem from genuine creative activities and to submit a statement of originality that clearly identifies the original elements in the submitted materials. Regulatory authorities will be able to reject applications that clearly do not meet the requirements, and the new regulations also provide a clearer basis for challenging registrations that should not be granted.
