Minnesota's proposed market ban is blocked, judge issues preliminary injunction

According to CoinMeta, Minnesota has lost its legal battle against Kalshi and Polymarket. On July 27th, State Judge Katherine Mendes issued a preliminary injunction to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), as well as Kalshi and Polymarket, prohibiting Minnesota from continuing to enforce its new Predictive Markets Act in three related cases. This act would make it a felony for companies to create, operate, or intentionally support predictive markets that fall under its jurisdiction. Mendes believes that the plaintiffs may succeed in certain aspects of their claims regarding federal preemption. The injunction only applies to the new predictive market laws of CFTC-registered markets and does not determine whether Minnesota can apply its old gambling laws to individual sports or entertainment contracts.
