According to CoinMeta, the Kimi K4 model is expected to be larger than the K3 model, but Moonlit Side encountered supply issues with NVIDIA chips while looking for chips for the K3 model. The new model is anticipated to have over 2.8 trillion parameters, but there is currently no schedule for training or release. The K3 model uses NVIDIA’s Blackwell chips, and some of the training was completed in China, rather than at the data center in Thailand as claimed by American officials. The K3 model does not have a complete large-scale training cluster; instead, Moonlit Side connected with at least two suppliers to utilize numerous eight-card servers. Bloomberg revealed that Alibaba has supplied approximately 20,000 NVIDIA H200 chips to Moonlit Side, which constitute an important part of the overall computing power of the Kimi model. Alibaba denies providing H200 chips to Moonlit Side, but does not deny any chip cooperation between the two parties. Bloomberg states that the Kimi model has surpassed Alibaba’s own Qianwen model in some key indicators, which has disappointed Alibaba’s internal team.
