According to CoinMeta, Suriname's $26 billion oil investment is gradually paying off. The unstable situation in the Middle East, particularly the war between the United States and Iran, is disrupting the global energy market. The dispute over the Strait of Hormuz has led to soaring oil prices, which is beneficial for South America's oil industry, especially Suriname's emerging oil sector. Since 2019, the Surinamese government has been paying attention to Guyana's prosperous oil industry. In 2020, commercially viable hydrocarbons were confirmed in Block 58 off the coast of Suriname. After a series of delays, TotalEnergies finally approved the investment decision for the deep-water Granmorgu project. This project is expected to bring up to $26 billion in fiscal revenue to Suriname and is scheduled to be operational by 2028.
