According to CoinMeta, a woman from Hong Kong transferred approximately $3.3 million to a fraudulent cryptocurrency investment platform after establishing a relationship with an online romantic partner. Hong Kong police statistics show that in the week up to July 30th, there were 25 cases of investment fraud involving online romances, with a total loss of nearly HK$70 million (about $9 million). In one case, the loss exceeded one-third. The victim continued to transfer funds after seeing the account balance increase as displayed on the platform, until the platform refused her withdrawal requests. Police are reminding investors to be wary of investment suggestions from newly established online contacts, with warning signs including guarantees of returns and abnormally high profits.
