Fed's Barkin: Whether interest rates are already high enough is an "open question" that remains to be verified

According to CoinMeta, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell stated that whether interest rate levels are sufficient to curb inflation is an "open question." He is unsure whether he will vote in favor of a raise, as did the other three regional Fed chairmen who voted in favor of a hike this week. In an interview on Friday, Powell pointed out that there are indeed sufficient reasons to tighten policy and reverse some of the interest rate cuts made last year. Given that inflation data slowed down in June, he believes there is still time before the next meeting to assess whether the current policy stance is appropriate. Additionally, Powell is skeptical about whether the labor market has significantly strengthened, saying that he "cannot feel that the labor market is very tight." He also noted that the transmission of price increases through the economy is uneven, making it difficult to determine how much inflation remains.
