South Korean Vice Prime Minister: Taxation on Cryptocurrencies to be Implemented Starting in 2027
2026-07-31 16:58:45
According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Yonhap News, South Korea's Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy, Kim Yun-taek, stated that the taxation of crypto assets in South Korea will be implemented as planned starting from 2027, after the extension ends at the end of this year. The government will continue to evaluate and improve the relevant regulations throughout the implementation process. This is Kim Yun-taek's first time making a clear statement in public that the taxation of crypto assets will be launched on schedule. The report indicates that South Korea's current plan does not allow investors to carry forward losses from crypto assets to subsequent years to offset profits, which has raised concerns among the market that domestic investors may face unfavorable treatment. Some investors might turn to overseas exchanges, potentially leading to a decline in trading volume and competitiveness of the local South Korean market.
