According to CoinMeta, Malaysia introduced six technology-related laws in the first seven months of 2026, covering regulations on artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, and digital platforms. Among them, the "Online Security Act" imposes mandatory licensing on platforms with over 8 million Malaysian users; the "Cybercrime Act" classifies deep fakes and artificially generated intimate images as criminal offenses; the "Amendment to the Competition Act" brings digital platforms under anti-monopoly regulation; the "Artificial Intelligence Governance Act" proposes to include artificial intelligence training data and output content within intellectual property protection; the Securities Commission's guidelines for digital assets were tightened on May 20th; the "Consumer Credit Act" brought BNPL service providers under regulation on March 1st.
